Vegan Chocolate Cherry Milkshakes

By Alexandra Caspero on July 7, 2015

I know it’s summer, and I’m supposed to be sharing salad recipe after zucchini recipe after heirloom tomato recipe, but I’ve got chocolate on the brain.

Creamy, ice-cold, cherry chocolate milkshakes to be exact. A blended Cherry Garcia (♥) inspired shake that’s completely dairy-free and made with only 3 ingredients. Bow-Chicka-Bow-Wow. This is your new favorite dessert.

Ever since I realized that pureed bananas taste just like ice cream, it’s been hard to justify buying store-bought. (Um, except as a topping for stone fruit crumble. That’s a must.)

Puree a few bananas, add in some flavorings, and ta-da! Naturally sweetened ice cream. It’s dessert that’s totally acceptable to have for breakfast.

For this simple recipe, I’m relying on one of my favorite beverages, Pacific Foods Hazelnut Chocolate milk. If you’ve ever wanted to drink nutella, then you’ve gotta try this drink! I keep the individual size cartons around for a quick post-workout breakfast. Paired with a banana and a smidge of peanut butter, it’s my favorite grab-and-go meal.

Frozen bananas, frozen cherries, and hazelnut chocolate milk. That’s it. You’ll be amazed at how creamy this milkshake is- without a lick of dairy! As far as milkshakes go, this one’s pretty healthy. Each serving is only 200 calories, 3g fat and 5g fiber. What other milkshake can say that?

It’s so delicious, I’ve made it 3 times in the past week. Next time you’re craving chocolate, give this one a try!

I’ve been waiting for this recipe since I saw your amazing photo on IG last week! Let’s just talk about that pic for a sec – all that chocolate dripping down the side of the glass. My eyes are bugging out of my head. Next – Hazelnut Chocolate Milk?! How have I never heard about this? You’ve just made my hubby’s day! Now for some bad news – I really dislike (dare I say hate) bananas. Alternatives?! Or do I just suck it up since this looks so darn delsh?!

The chocolate sauce is optional but SO worth it! It’s SO good! Hazelnut chocolate milk It literally tastes like Nutella 🙂 It’s OK, I honestly don’t think you taste the bananas- do you like them in smoothies? It’s more of the texture than the taste that’s important here so I don’t know what else to substitute as they give it the creamy texture of ice cream. Maybe Greek yogurt instead?

Oh, I know that chocolate sauce is worth it. My eyes were bugging out in a good way!! I don’t like bananas even in smoothies, but I’m going to give it a try. If it’s too much banana for me my hubs and kids will eat it and I’ll experiment with alternatives!

Yeah! I’m now wondering if greek yogurt will work in a similar way! I would add a tbsp. of chocolate powder to the recipe and see if that help masks the flavor! If not- more for your husband and kids 😉 Let me know if you try any alternatives that work!

This sounds amazing! I love using frozen cherries in smoothies/shakes! Also – never heard of hazelnut milk, but I can totally get on board with Nutella milk.

Nutella milk! It’s my favorite drink 🙂 I just found frozen cherries and I am obsessed! I like to partially thaw them and eat as a snack, so, so good!

A healthier milkshake alternative, inspired by the amazing Cherry Garcia flavor? Sold! I’ve had the Pacific Foods hazelnut milk before, but never their chocolate version – definitely sounds worthy.
