Cantaloupe Lemon Agua Fresca
Cantaloupe Agua Fresca! This agua fresca recipe is perfect for summer! Blend, strain and enjoy!
Erin, this one is for you! My good friend Erin and I went to grab tacos with our kids a few weeks ago at our favorite taco joint and both ended up ordering the cantaloupe agua fresca to go alongside. It was a particularly humid St. Louis afternoon and we were both hot and sweaty from our earlier walk.
One sip and we were hooked. Then immediately downed our glasses and got refills within seconds. I’m fairly certain we spent the entire meal talking about how delicious this cantaloupe agua fresca was. How could something so simple be so refreshing? So delicious?
I made my own double batch the next day, then called Erin to pick up a giant mason jar filled with her portion. Yes friends, I’ve found our drink of summer.

If you haven’t tried agua fresca before, then prepare to be amazed at how simple this is to make. Agua fresca literally means fruit water, and it reminds me of a watered down juice. It’s not as heavy or cloying sweet as straight fruit juice can be and tastes best in a giant glass filled with ice cubes. I could drink it all day long!
You will need a strainer for this recipe, to remove the fleshy part of the fruit that doesn’t get blended. I like a really thin agua fresca, and straining out the solids keeps everything light and refreshing. If you don’t have a strainer, then your drink will be thicker.

It goes without saying that the sweeter the fruit, the sweeter the beverage! If you are using a really fragrant, ripe melon than you might not need any sugar at all. If your cantaloupe is on the less sweet side, then you’ll need to add some sugar.
The lemon juice adds acid and balances the sweet fruit, though lime juice will also work.

Put this on your to-drink list for the weekend! Then come back and let me know how much you loved it!
