Watermelon Lemonade
Watermelon Lemonade! Refreshing and lightly sweetened, this is the perfect beverage for hot summer days! Fresh watermelon puree with lemon juice, sugar and sparkling water.
Watermelon Lemonade! A literal chill-pill for summer.
Hot, humid St. Louis summers have nothing on this zippy lemonade. Packed with refreshing watermelon, bright lemon juice and sparkling water — it’s what I want to drink all summer long.
As much as I love water, there’s something a bit special about a fruit-sweetened beverage like this. It comes together fairly quickly with just a handful of ingredients.

Watermelon Lemonade Ingredient Notes
- Watermelon: The flavor and sweetness of this lemonade comes from fresh watermelon. The riper your watermelon, the sweeter this lemonade will be.
- Fresh Lemons: As this lemonade is only made with a few ingredients, the fresher, the better. You could sub jarred lemon juice if you wanted, but I think fresh lemons are a must here.
- Simple Syrup: You’ll make your own simple syrup to help sweeten this one, but if desired, you could omit the syrup altogether or use maple syrup or honey.
- Sparkling Water: The sparkling water on top makes this one feel kinda like a cocktail/mocktail, which I like. You can use still water if you’d prefer.

How to Make Watermelon Puree
The base of this recipe is the watermelon puree, which is made by blending fresh watermelon (or, using a juicer). Cube your watermelon, then puree until very smooth.
I do recommend straining the watermelon mixture after pureeing for a cleaner sip. It’s completely OK to keep the watermelon as is, but it will add a bit of pulp to the finished lemonade.
I’ve done it both ways, and while the lazy girl’s option typically wins, I’ll strain it if I serve it to guests.
Once the watermelon is strained, add it to your simple syrup along with the fresh lemon juice. Top with sparkling water (or wine! or regular water) and serve.
